At Seamab, providing care and education that is safe, nurturing and resilience building is central in everything we do.
We share a passionate belief that everyday experiences shape children’s sense of themselves. The developing of nurturing relationships and the building of trust is at our core. We believe that providing reasoned responses to the emotional experiences of our children which underpin their challenging behaviours creates pathways for change and opportunities to learn. We support our children and young people to feel safe and connected through the development of healthy patterns of relating and communicating.
Our approach emphasises the intentional building of safe, positive and genuine relationships with the children, with families and between staff. All staff at Seamab are supported to understand and develop their skills in building safe, positive relationships and emotional connections. This is achieved by engaging with the principles of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (PACE), as well as through therapeutic sessions.
We recognise that our children and young people may need support with specific areas of their learning and development. We have a dedicated multi-disciplinary team comprising of a chartered Educational Psychologist, Senior Therapy Practitioner, Play Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist. They offer a comprehensive and specialist children’s Therapy Service including a wide range of supports, assessments, interventions and effective therapies for children, young people and families who are experiencing a range of difficulties. Central to this support is the ability to reflect on how we can provide communication and emotion friendly environments and how we, as practitioners, often need to adapt our practice in order to meet the needs of our children and young people.
The Therapy team at Seamab work in the context of common goals and promote child centred practice. We recognise that our children and young people require a safe and nurturing environment where they can experience positive, trusting, reliable and loving relationships from the adults supporting them. The therapeutic team work closely with care and education staff to ensure assessments are fully developed and interventions consistently applied – thus enabling a holistic and integrated approach to working with children.
Our approach is flexible and aims to listen to the needs of the individual and respond accordingly. Our goal is to work collaboratively to have a positive impact on teaching, lifelong learning, attainment and emotional health and wellbeing. At the core of our ethos is the belief that all individuals, given the right support, can thrive.
